Expert chemists at ESi provide laboratory testing, research, and analysis for many diverse projects. Our comprehensive forensic laboratories have state-of-the-art equipment to help solve issues including materials identification, deformulation and reverse engineering of plastics and polymers, surface coatings, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and many product failures to help resolve manufacturing issues.
ESi routinely provides chemical consulting services regarding drug contamination, accelerant and explosive residues after fires, water quality including microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and biofouling studies, chemical incompatibilities, indoor air quality evaluations, and microbial investigations.
ESi chemists commonly perform microanalysis for metallurgical and composition mapping, detection of degradation of components, failure sequences, corrosion, and environmental studies to simulate actual applications. Depending on the nature of the problem, chemists may rely on analytical instrumentation, knowledge of chemical reactivity and trends, or frequently both, to either determine what caused a failure or predict how or when one may occur. Guided by the scientific method, the Chemistry Group can design experiments to provide further understanding of a process and solve difficult problems.
An ESi investigation combines metallurgical, mechanical and chemical analysis to determine the cause of a rifle accident. ESi ultimately contributes the powder analysis to the National Center for Forensic Science Smokeless Powders Database.
Using a combination of chemical and metallurgical principles, ESi determined that stainless steel kitchen components could be restored to their pristine state.
ESi's expertise spans dozens of industries and specializations organized across several practice groups, each staffed by dozens of in-house experts with the technical knowledge, hands-on expertise, and courtroom experience required to execute projects for and with our clients from start to finish.
