HVAC & Plumbing

Failures in HVAC and plumbing systems can occur for a variety of reasons, including defects introduced during design, manufacturing, or installation, as well as poor or improper maintenance. These failures often have a cascading effect, creating issues not just for the building itself but for the people and equipment inhabiting it.

For example, loss of heating can lead to frozen pipes, water leaks and property damage. Water leaks, excessive humidity, and condensation can result in mold and mildew growth, rendering the building uninhabitable. Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) can lead to “sick building syndrome,” causing occupants to suffer from various health issues and jeopardizing productivity. Improper operation of gas-fired equipment can expose people to dangerous gases, and can even result in a fire or explosion.

Refrigeration

Failures in refrigeration systems can occur for a variety of reasons, including defects introduced during design, manufacturing, or installation, as well as poor or improper maintenance. These failures often have a cascading effect, leading to:

  • Premature equipment failure
  • Structural issues resulting from moisture intrusion (e.g. uplift of concrete floors or foundations)
  • Spoilage, damage, or loss of the goods stored in the refrigerated space
  • Unintended release of potentially dangerous refrigerants

No matter when and where these errors are introduced, our experience with these systems enables us to analyze the problem at hand, uncover how and why the failure may have occurred, and identify what or who might be responsible. Additionally, our consultants have extensive experience providing expert testimony and litigation support, and will help make facts easy for everyone involved to understand so they can draw informed conclusions.
