ESi is pleased to congratulate Senior Managing Consultant and Director of ESi’s Biomechanics practice, Amber Rath Stern, Ph.D., P.E. for recently being recognized as a recipient of the Charlotte Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Leadership Awards. This annual award recognizes the city’s most promising young professionals who demonstrate notable achievements in their careers, leadership ability and a strong commitment to their community.
Dr. Stern began her professional career at ESi in 2013, and has been instrumental in establishing and growing ESi’s Biomechanics footprint and capabilities along the east coast and across the country. Her work ranges from litigation-based projects to consulting on product development and validation, and she has rapidly become a “go-to” resource and trusted adviser for clients in her local community as well as for high profile international projects. In just four years, Dr. Stern has risen from an entry level position to Senior Managing Consultant, and was recently tapped to lead ESi’s thriving Biomechanics practice.
“Amber’s appointment is a direct reflection of her strong technical leadership, team oriented approach and dedication to our clients,” said Chief Operations Officer, Will Pinkston. “We are extremely proud of her and are thrilled to have one of our own recognized among other prominent and community-minded young professionals in the Charlotte area.”
A homegrown Charlotte native, Dr. Stern graduated valedictorian of her high school and cum laude from UNC Charlotte -- one of only three women in her Mechanical Engineering class. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Dr. Stern has published in international, peer-reviewed scientific journals and currently has 85 publications to her name. She is a sought-after speaker at industry and technical forums, and in 2014, was awarded the American Society of Biomechanics’ Young Scientist Post-Doctoral Award.
Dr. Stern enjoys living and working in the Charlotte area, and her passion for her community is clear. She is an Adjunct Professor at UNCC, serves on the Advisory Board for UNCC’s Mechanical Engineering Department, and has volunteered to be a mentor/advisor to the University’s newly formed Mechanical Engineering Women's Society. She is also a frequent lecturer and panelist in engineering classes, and a strong advocate and role model for females interested in pursuing a successful career in math and science fields – especially mechanical engineering.
Dr. Stern and the other award recipients are featured in the June 1, 2018 edition of the Charlotte Business Journal.
