Norcross, GA — It is with great sadness that we announce that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael E. Stevenson, Ph.D., P.E. passed away suddenly and unexpectedly yesterday afternoon. The entire ESi family mourns this loss.
The ESi Board of Directors has issued the following statement:
"We are saddened by the passing of Mike Stevenson. He was an exemplary leader, a devoted husband and father, a mentor to many, and a good friend. Mike’s contributions to ESi are immeasurable, and he inspired us daily with his vision for ESi and its people. He brought out the best in all of us. On behalf of the ESi board, leadership team, and employees, we extend our deepest sympathies to Mike’s wife, Julie, and to their family and loved ones. We share your heartbreak and will miss Mike deeply.”
In the interim, President and COO Will Pinkston will work closely with Technical Vice Presidents Tom Bajzek, Chad Fischer, and Erick Knox, and Vice President of Regional Operations Hans Iwand, to continue providing leadership and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the firm.
Stevenson joined ESi in 2007 as Vice President and Director of Georgia Operations. In 2009, he was appointed President, and in 2010, CEO. He was appointed Board Chairman in 2018. From the very start, Stevenson embraced the wisdom and values of the firm’s founders, believing deeply in the people of ESi and the power of what they could accomplish together.
“Mike has been a driving force in bringing ESi to where it is today,” said Pinkston. “Thanks to his tireless dedication and foresight, we are operating from a position of strength – one with a clear vision, a strong leadership bench, and the right teams in place to continue executing our strategy. But it doesn’t diminish our loss. ESi has lost an extraordinary leader. The world has lost an exceptional human being.”
“As we navigate this sad time, we will honor Mike’s legacy by continuing his vision and dedicating ourselves to the work he cared about so deeply. He will live on in our memories and inspire our actions for many years to come.”
A memorial service for Mike will be held at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at All Saints Catholic Church in Atlanta, Georgia. For those that are not able to attend in person, there will be a live stream of the service, beginning at 1:45 PM.
