Winn Recognized with AIAA Distinguished Service Award

March 31, 2017. ESi is pleased to announce that the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics has selected AIAA Fellow Robert C. Winn, Ph.D., P.E., as winner of its 2017 AIAA Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes Winn for “over three decades of exemplary service and leadership to AIAA,” including 11 years on the board of directors. He has also served as Vice President for Technical Activities, Vice President for Finance, and held key roles on numerous technical and administrative committees. Winn was the founder and first chair of the Emerging Technologies Standing Committee.

AIAA Executive Director Sandy Magnus said Winn “...has given selflessly of his time and knowledge, and has always looked for ways to strengthen the Institute, helping AIAA remain a strong and relevant part of the aerospace community.”

An industry veteran, Dr. Winn is chairman, principal and director of aviation at ESi, where he has provided technical direction and leadership for over 20 years. Prior to joining ESi, Winn served in the U.S. Air Force as engineer and instructor pilot, and taught aeronautical and mechanical engineering at the Air Force Academy and Colorado Technical University. He also worked as Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force European Office of Aerospace Research and Development in London, England, and was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers AC‐9C Subcommittee on Aircraft Icing Technology.

Well‐recognized by his peers, Winn’s prior honors include the 2009 AIAA Energy Systems Award, a 2003 SAE International Certificate of Achievement for Accident Reconstruction, a 2001 AIAA Sustained Service Award, and the 1986 Daley Award for Outstanding Member of the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Department of Aeronautics. Winn is also a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and has published more than 70 technical papers, reports, and articles.
