This one-and-a-half day workshop will review common causes of brittle fractures in plastic components that failed in service. Actual case studies demonstrating the use of microscopic examination will be presented. Special attention will focus on the effect of stress state on fracture behavior. The application of fracture mechanics concepts in analyzing brittle fractures will also be presented. Case studies include components made from polycarbonate, PVC, polyolefins, ABS, and modified PPO. Attendees will participate in hands-on workshops in analyzing actual fractures of plastic components.
Registrants will learn what causes cracking, how these causes can be determined by fracture analysis, and how the interaction of design, materials, manufacture, and service environment can contribute to fracture. Case histories will examine the methodology used to determine the cause of fracture, starting with the examination of the fractured component.
To register, please email Terri Sokolowski.
Attendees will receive a copy of the textbook ‘Fractography in Failure Analysis of Polymers’.
